Family owned and operated Kefalonia specialist Unique is delighted to announce the opening of its first boutique hotel, Ionian Sun, on the Greek island this July, to complement its existing portfolio of 35 beautiful villas dotted across the island.
The 27-room beach-front hotel in Lourdas, southern Kefalonia, will provide a stylish retreat on the picturesque island which shot to fame in Hollywood blockbuster Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Guests will be able to choose from Classic, Superior and Luxury Retreats as well as two Penthouses equipped with private sun loungers, BBQ areas and panoramic terraces with views across the bay. All of the rooms will be equipped with air conditioning, a mini bar, satellite TV and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Romance, relaxation and privacy will be at the heart of this adults-only hotel. Bathrooms will be equipped with walk-in showers for two. Just steps from the hotel, couples will be able to use a private beach area to explore the water, away from the crowds. For special occasions, Ionian Sun will be able to organise breakfast in bed and candlelit dining at carefully chosen sunset points across the island. Furthermore, couples can indulge in joint treatments at the Wellness Hub, including a romantic moonlight massage on the outdoor wellness terrace.
Health and wellness is at the core of Unique’s philosophy and the hotel will be equipped with an outdoor gym offering views of the coral blue sea, outdoor space for yoga and Pilates and two fresh water swimming pools. A full service restaurant, Ionian Blu, will serve traditional, healthy Greek food, including freshly marinated grilled vegetables and Ionian sea foods.
Additionally, water skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing and horse riding will all be available at this charming beach resort. For the evenings, ‘unplugged’ entertainment will be on offer with local musicians playing light music at the bar.
Designed by Greek architects De.Ar and furnished by interior designer Cocomat, a highly regarded Greek brand which only uses natural products such as goose feathers and seaweed, the hotel will have a rustic and authentic feel. Expansive garden spaces and beautiful landscape will surround the hotel, with 20 acres of cypress, eucalyptus and pine forest cascading down the lower slopes of Mt. Aenos.
Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands in western Greece, is an unspoilt paradise. With mountains and nature parks, wildlife in abundance, an array of beaches, turquoise blue sea, pine forests and walking trails, there is something to suit all tastes.
The Koumoudos family owns Unique and is well established on the island, with the hill in Lourdata, “Koumoudata”, historically named after them. Determined to retain the island as the unspoilt paradise they have always known, the family has ensured that Unique provides all of the necessary luxuries today’s discerning traveller demands, whilst maintaining the charm and authenticity synonymous with Kefalonia.
EasyJet, Ryan Air, Thomas Cook and Thomson offer direct flights to Kefalonia. Norwegian is launching a new direct flight from London Gatwick to Kefalonia from April.
Classic Retreats start from €117 per night on a b&b basis. This includes a 35% introductory discount for guests booking before 30 June 2015. For further information, or to book, visit www.uniquekefalonia.com.
