Royal Caribbean International celebrates the beginning of the most exciting period in its history with the arrival of Oasis of the Seas in Southampton. The world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship is making its first ever call into the UK ahead of the launch of new ship Quantum of the Seas just over two weeks later.
Oasis of the Seas was launched in 2009 to huge travel industry excitement and has been one of the most popular cruise ships in the whole sector ever since. Royal Caribbean International has continued to build on this hype, including most recently in confirming that sister ship, Allure of the Seas, will be based in the Mediterranean for the whole 2015 summer season offering cruises from Barcelona. The significant investment in enhancing European deployment marks a major step change for Royal Caribbean International.
Stuart Leven, managing director, UK and Ireland, Royal Caribbean International, explains:
“By 2016 Royal Caribbean International – the leisure business that has delivered holiday firsts such as ice skating, rock climbing and zip lining at sea – will be the largest cruise line in the world in terms of fleet capacity. We are at a very exciting time in our history and European market share, a milestone that is thanks to the hard work of our agent partners in raising awareness of the appeal of holidays at sea. As part of our on-going investment in supporting agents, we are welcoming over-100 agents on-board Oasis of the Seas to aid them in selling Allure of the Seas’ 2015 holidays.”
Royal Caribbean International currently has five new ships on order – including two more of the same scale as Oasis of the Seas with some exciting new features still to be announced. The business will deliver a 6.9 per cent capacity increase to the global cruise holiday market in 2015 alone. This includes a new ship launching in Southampton in 2015, the 4,180-guest Anthem of the Seas, offering cruises throughout the Mediterranean from late spring until late autumn 2015. Anthem of the Seas, will arrive in the UK in April 2015 and delivers holidaymakers experiences such as skydiving, dodgems and even robot bar tenders all at sea.
Stuart Leven adds:
“Anthem of the Seas is the most technologically advanced holiday resort in the world and it is hugely exciting that this new ship will be sailing from the UK. It brings so many opportunities for agents who can truly show off a ship that challenges the expectations of travellers when it comes to holidays at sea. We hope that our extensive investments into new ships, new technology and new ideas are making it easier than ever to sell a cruise.”
