For more than eighty years The Dorchester has been at the heart of London’s most dazzling high profile events from state banquets, weddings, social and fashion events, to some of London’s biggest press junkets. For the first time in the hotel’s history, a film captures behind-the-scenes footage at ‘Fashion for The Brave 2012’, revealing the attention to detail and layers of preparations that contribute to such prominent events.
The film shows footage from 4.17am in the morning to guests’ arrival at 6.30pm revealing the multi-faceted input from lighting technicians and prop managers, and the hotels florists, chefs, valet, sommeliers, and floor managers – expertly conducted by events operations manager Joe Flattery.
Events operations manager Joe Flattery told TravelPlus: “On average we run eight events in The Dorchester’s event rooms every day for 365 days of the year. Organisation, experience, timing, good relationships, stamina and creativity are all essential for intricate events and discerning guests.”
The charity event ‘Fashion for the Brave 2012’, which was held in the recently renovated ballroom, was attended by Jade Parfitt, Jasmine Guinness, Lady Victoria Hervey and raised funds of £270,000 for The Household Cavalry Operational Casualties fund and The British Forces Foundation.
Since opening in 1931, The Dorchester has catered to a long line of prominent figures, including politicians such as Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill, royalty such as Queen Elizabeth, who attended a dinner party at The Dorchester the day before her engagement to Prince Philip was announced. In addition, some of Hollywood’s most coveted icons such as Ingrid Bergman, Sophia Loren, and Barbara Streisand, along with The Beatles, Sylvester Stallone and Peter Sellers have also celebrated at The Dorchester over the decades. This month The Dorchester also appears in Sky Atlantic’s Hotel Secrets filmed with Richard E. Grant Thursday 9pm.
