Indus Tours, UK’s specialist tour operator to India with a dedicated ski programme to the world’s highest and most inspirational peaks, have launched their 2011/2012 ‘Ski India’ packages to Gulmarg in Kashmir with the added benefit of a new chairlift giving greater access to a vast snowriding terrain with amazing stretches of untouched powder.
Widely acknowledged as the final frontier amongst the skiing fraternity, Gulmarg is one of the northern hemisphere’s highest ski areas, boasting some of the best off-piste skiing with powder runs of over 1,000 vertical metres. Nestled under the protective shoulders of Mount Apharwat and surrounded by breathtaking views to Naga Parbat peak, the resort’s heady gondola ski lift, which ascends to 3980 metres, is now joined by a new chairlift.
Officially opened on 18 September 2011, the new state-of-the-art chairlift has been added from the mid station of the Gondola (3050m) – ‘Kongdoori’ – to Mary Shoulder, a distance of 1.6 kilometres with a vertical rise of 498 metres. Opening up backcountry terrain for grooming, it is anticipated that it will attract intermediate skiers and pave the way for hosting international ski championships.
Utilising Ski Himalaya’s expertise on the ground, Indus Tours ensures UK holidaymakers the very best professional guiding with Ski Himalaya’s locally trained mountain hosts – the ‘Kashmir Powdercats’ and a choice of ski in/ski out hotel accommodation.
Based on a 9 night/8 day duration ‘Ski India’ programme, Indus Tours package starts from £1586/person twin share including international and domestic flights, full board accommodation, 5 full days of skiing with the Kashmir Powdercats (to ensure that holidaymakers make the best of their days on the slopes), a night on one of Kashmir’s famous houseboats on the picturesquely tranquil Lake Dal as well as a night in India’s capital city Delhi with the option of a day’s sightseeing before returning to the UK. Transfers, visa fee and handling charges are also included with Ski Lift passes bought in resort for approximately £90/person/5 days.
Yasin Zargar, Managing Director, Indus Tours told TravelPlus: “Winter in Gulmarg offers a whole different aspect to the ‘India Experience’. What better way to get an appreciation for this very special area than enjoy the adventure of pristine powdery slopes, spectacular vistas and the promise of a deliciously rewarding Kashmiri curry at the end of the day?”
