The ‘Aurora Hideaway’ is a new private dining experience launched this month by Arctic travel specialists Off the Map Travel, who are now offering guests the chance to dine deep in the Arctic Swedish wilderness in a moveable restaurant. The new private restaurant is built on skis meaning it can be moved by snowmobile to the most stunning and remote areas of the Arctic, where guests can enjoy a candlelit dinner of locally sourced delicacies cooked on an open fire, under the night sky and if the conditions are right, the Northern Lights.
The experience begins with a chauffeur driven snowmobile transfer from Brandon Lodge to the Aurora Hideaway, where a little piece of Lagom magic (the secret of Swedish contentment) awaits. As guests arrive, they are faced with a dreamlike Arctic atmosphere with the Aurora Hideaway lit by a sparkling open fire, and surrounded by candles. After a local welcome drink, guests will dine on a menu inspired by, and sourced locally, including dishes such as foraged mushroom soup topped with smoked salmon and served with sour dough bread. A main course of barbequed reindeer steak and wild herbs, with a delicious dessert of blueberry and merengue pie served with warm vanilla sauce.
Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel and Arctic travel expert, said; “This is a dining experience with a difference. A private restaurant that ties together luxury and fine food with the raw beauty of the Arctic wilderness. Diners are also in the perfect spot to experience the Northern Lights with the Aurora Hideaway team keeping an eye on the sky for signs of a display of the Aurora.”
During their evening, guests also have the option to indulge in a spot of snowshoeing to help work up an appetite and hunt for the Northern Lights with a guide.
The Aurora Hideaway dining experience is available from December through to April, and can be enjoyed by diners as for a romantic meal, or groups (maximum of ten) to enjoy a memorable social gathering.
This is just one of the many unique dining experiences offered by Off the Map Travel across the Arctic. Other experiences include the Ice tasting menu at the Icehotel Kiruna (Sweden), fine dining cuisine and cooking workshops at Camp Ripan in Kiruna (Sweden) and a King Crab Safari in Honningsvåg near Tromso (Norway). All experiences can be booked through an Off the Map Travel advisor.
