My husband and I stayed here to celebrate his 40th birthday so we hoped for a wonderful experience and we were not disappointed. The entrance area has an attractive cascading water feature where we were greeted warmly by the doorman, relieved of our bags and offered refreshments whilst checking in. Already we felt like special and valued guests and that impression continued as we were shown to our Junior Suite overlooking Kensington Gardens.
The rooms are decorated in warm, muted colours with stylish decorative features displaying true Italian flair. There is a harmony between traditional charm and contemporary design that demonstrates the hotel’s dedication to providing the highest standard of comfort and luxury. Photographs in the room and all through the hotel pay homage to Italian cinema and fashion so I sipped my Illy espresso (made on our own fabulous machine) under the gaze of Sophia Loren.
Then I entered the bathroom and wow! The beaten silver hand basin, mirrored walls and marble floor were set off to great effect by subtle lighting and it was with great reluctance that we forced ourselves to leave our suite to explore the city.
An excellent map was provided and in our sitting room was a personal copy of a City Guide containing a wealth of information about shops and the cultural attractions of London as well as a helpful section about this summer’s Olympic Games.
Sadly, we didn’t have enough time to experience the SPC Spa housed within the hotel but I understand that this urban escape offers a full range of treatments and therapies – a must for a future visit with girlfriends, I think. We ate our plentiful breakfast in the gorgeous Brunello restaurant. We saw that it was popular both at lunchtime and in the evening as it had a stylish cocktail bar and lounge area as well as the restaurant. Opulent Murano glass chandeliers complement the sumptuous yet intimate area. Throughout our stay the staff were helpful, courteous and friendly with that special Baglioni touch – sincere smiles.
Baglioni Hotel is in the perfect location for enjoying cultural and retail London with the added benefit of the beautiful expanse of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park on the doorstep. As with the other hotels in the exclusive Baglioni group the emphasis is on true Italian hospitality within a setting of elegance and luxury.
