Germanwings has good news for travellers looking forward to the holiday season: the low-cost airline has launched its summer flight schedule for 2011 with lots of new routes and even more flights to the most popular Summer holiday destinations, including nine new connections to Italy from Cologne/Bonn, Stuttgart and Hanover.
For travellers travelling via Cologne/Bonn the expansion of the range of flights to Italy means there will be four weekly connections to Bari and Pisa and two weekly flights to Cagliari in Sardinia. The connection to Pisa will be expanded by an additional flight on Thursdays to five flights per week. There are also more low-cost flights to Mallorca during the summer months, with an additional connection each day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: instead of three flights a day, travellers will now be able to depart from Cologne/Bonn for Palma de Mallorca four times a day. Also, in addition to the current five connections a week, the low-cost airline will from June onwards be offering a flight from Cologne/Bonn to Salzburg on Thursdays.
The low-cost airline is also increasing the number of flights to Croatia during the summer months: from the end of July, passengers will have the option of flying to Zadar on Wednesdays, and the popular holiday region Pula will also be served on Tuesdays and Fridays between July and September, making a total of four flights a week to the Croatian city.
In addition, the number of flights to Greece is being increased during the summer weeks from 25 July to September 2011: with additional flights on Mondays and Wednesdays, Germanwings is offering its customers plenty of opportunities to discover the Greek city of Thessaloniki. From the end of July, there will for the first time also be a Monday service to Kavala. There are flights every Saturday to the volcanic Canaries island of Tenerife during the autumn months between 24 September and 29 October 2011 – the ideal time for a visit to the island for some late summer sun.
New routes to Italy are also becoming available from Stuttgart: the low-cost airline’s summer flight schedule now includes flights to Bari and Cagliari. There will be flights to Bari four times a week as from 27 March 2011 – also from Cologne/Bonn, with two flights a week to Cagliari as from 14 April 2011.
Hanover can look forward to four new connections, to Naples, Bari, Venice (Treviso) and Catania. Naples will be on the flight schedule twice a week from 29 March 2011, with a flight to Bari each Thursday from 14 April. The low-cost airline will be operating three flights a week to Treviso, around 30 kilometres north of Venice, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. And the summer flight schedule for 2011 will include flights each Saturday to Catania on Italy’s largest island of Sicily. In addition, the airline is expanding its connections to many popular holiday regions: three additional flights each week to Izmir in Turkey and, between 6 July and 19 August, additional flights each Wednesday and Friday to Palma de Mallorca are good news for sun-worshippers and party people.
Another new development is the introduction of the new route between Maastricht and Berlin. This is Germanwings’ response to the recently introduced air traffic tax, offering those living in the border region the option of flying to Berlin from the Netherlands. The route will be served up to twice daily with an Airbus A319 with 150 seats and offers both vacationers and business travellers new travel options.
