Burger Sotheby’s International have been appointed as the sole agent for the sale of villa Les Rochers, one of the most exclusive properties to come to the market in recent years on the French Riviera. Villa Les Rochers is one of the original, luxury residences of Cap Martin and was constructed for a friend of the original landowners in 1908.
The land was first owned by a consortium, headed by the Mr White of ‘Black and White’ whisky, a celebrated business man of the era. In conjunction with the Danish architect, Hans-George Tersling, he constructed the Grand Hotel du Cap Martin. The venture was am immediate international success with The Emperor Joseph of Austria staying at the hotel four times between 1896 and 1897.
Following on from the success of the hotel, Mr White engaged Tersling to build three sumptuous villas, the first for Empress Eugenie, constructed in 1892, the second for himself and the third, Les Rochers constructed for his close friend Mr Blake in 1908.
The property is built on a truly sumptuous scale, with over 850 m² of living space, including 8 bedrooms, staff accommodation and extensive terraces to take full advantage of the waterfront location. The villa was originally designed around an Egyptian theme, evidence of which is still visible today from the interior cornices and the exterior decoration. Les Rochers has been lovingly restored over a 10 year period by the current owners, retaining all of the original style and charm of this unique residence.
Outside, the extensive terraces offer panoramic sea views and take full advantage of the waterfront location. Much of the original botanical gardens have been retained, with a display of rare cactus plants.
‘We are delighted to have been appointed to handle the sale of such a magnificent property’ said Jean-Francois Favelier, Founder and Owner of Burger Sotheby’s International Realty ‘We pride ourselves on offering only the finest of properties to our international clients and Les Rochers is a landmark property here on the Cote d’Azur’.
